Books play a quintessential role by introducing students to a world of imagination, providing knowledge of the outside world, improving their reading, writing and speaking skills, and boosting memory and intelligence.
In a student’s life, books play a significant role, being one of the most common resources in the classroom. Textbooks are essential for beginning teachers, as they provide a detailed sequence of what to do and when to do it. It is an excellent teaching aid for both teachers and students. In school, students are given textbooks and workbooks and they should pay attention to them in class, as these textbooks are considered instruction manuals for students while studying. Books provide organised units of work, which give students all the lessons they need to cover.
Students should read textbooks to boost their creativity. Books provide detailed information on the course content, including the syllabus, sub-topics, chapters, essential questions, etc., which help students prepare confidently for the exam. Reading through their respective textbook will help them improve their memory, and it will also stretch their memory muscles because they have to memorise a lot of things like plot, lines, facts and figures, etc. Being able to write creatively will help students in their future studies.
CBSE students need to strictly follow the NCERT textbooks for all the classes. Along with textbooks, NCERT also publishes NCERT solutions such as NCERT Solutions for Class 4 English, Maths, Science, etc.
1. Experts
One primary advantage of using textbooks is that they are written and designed by experts in the topics discussed. Textbook writers keep up-to-date with the research in a particular subject area, which means that teachers and students are presented with the most valuable information in that subject field. If teachers didn’t have these experts to rely on, they could miss some critical advances in a particular area. Textbook writers can be viewed as teachers’ and students’ most valuable aid.
2. Students
Textbooks have many advantages for students. First among them is the ease at which they allow students to find information. Books are usually written with detailed contents pages and indexes that, if appropriately designed, can be used to see what the student is looking for quickly. Textbooks also provide structure for a student’s learning. Each chapter should have a logical flow, building on the knowledge acquired in previous chapters. The material in each chapter is also usually presented in a similar design, which means the students know exactly how to approach each topic as it is presented.
3. Teachers
There are also advantages for teachers who use textbooks. Young teachers can find it accommodating because the material and structure of lessons are often very detailed, which means that teachers don’t have to spend a lot of time coming up with novel lesson ideas. The information for each chapter or lesson is also usually presented in a straightforward, chronological way. Most textbooks will come with supplementary teacher material that spells out the teaching procedures that should be used for each lesson. Teachers of the CBSE board advise students to refer to NCERT textbooks and solutions like NCERT Solutions for Class 4 English Unit 4.
4. Supplementary materials
Another advantage of textbooks is that, many now come with supplementary materials that complement a teacher’s lessons. These supplemental materials could be DVDs that have video and audio clips of information relating to the topics of study, companion websites that provide additional information, or links to other related web pages or study guides that present students with additional questions relating to the topic. These supplementary materials allow those students who learn in different ways to find their way to the topics of study, and achieve learning success.
